A fiery fundraising alternative is afoot in Middletown with the help of the Ignite Firewalk Foundation.
The organization is hosting a charity firewalk on April 18 from 5 until 10:30 p.m. at 108 Patriot Drive to raise funds for DJ’s Alliance, a Delaware nonprofit providing support to suicide loss survivors in the First State and beyond.
Participants will take part in a guided firewalk experience led by trained coaches designed to symbolize resilience and transformation. Organizers say the deeper purpose is to bring attention and support to a community that often suffers in silence: those left behind after a suicide.
“This powerful Firewalk experience is more than a fundraiser; it’s a symbolic act of courage, resilience and transformation. Every step taken across the fire helps raise critical funds to ensure DJ’s Alliance can continue offering free and accessible support services to those navigating grief and trauma across Delaware,” Ignite leaders state on its event page.
For many participants, the firewalk itself becomes a powerful metaphor.
Stepping onto a path of glowing embers requires trust, courage and focus — qualities organizers say mirror the journey many survivors face as they begin to rebuild their lives after loss.
“The firewalk is about transformation,” organizers said. “It’s about facing something that feels impossible and discovering you’re stronger than you realized. In many ways, that reflects the path so many suicide loss survivors walk every day.”
Proceeds from the event will support DJ’s Alliance programs, including Delaware’s LOSSTeam (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors Team) through which trained volunteers provide compassionate outreach to families in the immediate aftermath of a suicide. The team connects survivors to resources, support groups and ongoing care during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
DJ’s Alliance also works across the state to strengthen suicide prevention and postvention efforts while supporting individuals and families affected by suicide loss through outreach programs, advocacy and community education.
