I am caring for a loved one who lost someone to suicide

What do you say when you hear that a loved one lost someone to suicide? How do you help? We know that you might feel just as lost for words in that moment as your loved one feels. Believe it or not, that’s normal. You have a few very important tasks ahead of you. We’re here to help!

First and foremost, and we’re sure you’ve already heard this, take care of yourself. Grab an extra cup of warm tea, take a bath instead of a shower, go for a longer walk… Do things for yourself that bring you peace and joy. Your person needs you to be the best, most authentic you that you can be right now. And you need to do that for yourself, too. We know that whoever your person lost is probably someone you knew and cared for, as well. This loss affects you, too. While you’re wrapping yourself up in the superhero cape of a lifetime, remember to be kind to yourself and give yourself time to grieve if necessary.

When you’re ready for more support for yourself or for the person you’re caring for in the wake of a tragedy, please fill out our intake form. Someone will be in touch with you soon!
